Guidelines for Gas Meter Installations
To ensure your request for service initiation is completed in a timely manner, please use the meter set guidelines listed below. Preparation on your part will enable your meter to be set on the first attempt, rather than on return trips. You will be charged for additional trips.
I) A release from the city (in most cases) is required.
II) OUTSIDE PIPING
    1) Customer piping / riser placement - please see Standard diagrams at the end of this document.
    2) House set - Customer piping must come out of wall at least 24" above the top (brick line) of foundation and extend from the wall 12" with a 1" 90 degree elbow installed.
    3) Alley set - Customer riser must be installed 12" to the right and back of the CoServ riser and built up at least 12" above the CoServ riser.
    4) Be certain there are no items in the way of meter placement such as T-poles, other utilities, dirt or debris. There must be nothing installed, placed, or planted within 2 feet of the CoServ Gas riser such as air conditioning units, vents, water faucets, shrubs, etc. as CoServ Gas Technicians must have room to safely work around the meter now as well as in the future.
III) INSIDE PIPING
    1) Following the National Fuel Gas Code (NFGC) each residential, commercial and industrial structure is leak tested in order to provide the most Safe, Secure and Reliable natural gas service to all CoServ Gas Customers. Therefore, access to the home is a requirement to install the meter. Please insure the house is unlocked and no floor work is being performed.
    2) All installed gas appliances including but not limited to, water heaters and central heating units, must be properly connected with valves and flex lines. All other gas appliances installed such as gas logs, cook tops, etc must also be properly connected with valves and flex lines. All other gas appliance outlets must have valves with plugs installed.
    3) Attic access is required via pull down ladder with strings or unlocked doors. The attic access must be properly secured to joists and functioning properly without obstructions such as trash, hall lights, bricks, etc. Temporary ladders through scuttle holes are NOT acceptable. Each builder must have a safe and accessible walkway to and in front of any gas appliance/application located in the attic.
    4) Pressure left on all house piping is not required, but it will help guarantee that there are no leaks in your system, which could prevent the meter from being installed. CoServ Gas Technicians test the house piping at operating pressure with all valves open to all gas appliances. We test up to the control of each unit, which includes all piping as well as the valves and the flex lines.
