CoServ Builds Habitat for Humanity House
In May 2005 CoServ Electric and CoServ Gas employees, in partnership with the Denton County Habitat for Humanity organization, dedicated a new home to a Sanger family in need. CoServ volunteers and guests engaged in a 10-week building cycle, donated their time to construct the home, provided lunch and refreshments for laborers, mentored the host family, maintained records of employee time and documented the construction process by taking photos of the weekly progress. A photo album was presented to the new owners, a single mother and her four children, at the dedication ceremony in May. "We have a large number of employees that serve various agencies, volunteering their time, resources and care," said Mike Dreyspring, President/CEO of CoServ. "Many are involved in Habitat for Humanity, building homes for the needy. While focusing on member needs, CoServ also works for the sustainable development of our communities." The funding sponsorship for this project was made possible by employee contributions, special project fundraisers and a significant level of support from the newly formed CoServ Charitable Foundation. "The CoServ Charitable Foundation was formed to assist organizations like Habitat for Humanity," said Jim Chism, Senior Vice President of Administrative Services. "The Habitat program provides a way for deserving families to have affordable housing. We are pleased that the CoServ Charitable Foundation was a part of the Habitat home constructed in Sanger." |
